Network TV lost many great shows in 2025, ranging from long-running series such as S.W.A.T. to dramas that never made it past their first seasons, like Suits LA. Some cancellations came as a shock, while others anyone could have seen coming from a mile away. Unfortunately, that's the name of the game in Hollywood.
Every year, CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox end a handful of their shows for a multitude of reasons. Perhaps they had subpar ratings, they were too costly, or the network had to make room in its 2025–2026 schedule. Whatever the case, most of the series on this list are over for good. But hope for a future is still alive for a couple of them, thanks to differing circumstances.
11 S.W.A.T.
2017–2025
S.W.A.T. might've been canceled twice before, but its third will stick. As fans know, CBS originally killed the series following its sixth season in 2023. A few days later, though, the network reversed its decision and renewed the show for a seventh and final season. In a surprising turn of events, CBS greenlit season 8 in 2024, once again changing its mind.
S.W.A.T. won't be so lucky this time around. CBS and Sony Pictures Television couldn't reach an agreement regarding a ninth season, and reports claim that licensing fees played a big part in the network's decision to cancel the action drama. So, S.W.A.T. is over.
The good news is that the S.W.A.T. universe will live on via a spinoff featuring Shemar Moore's Hondo coming out of forced retirement to lead a group of newbies. However, the upcoming TV show isn't expected to air on CBS. Instead, Sony Pictures Television will shop the Hondo spinoff around to other networks and streaming services.
10 Suits LA
2025–2025
Following Suits' resurgence on Netflix in 2023, a spinoff seemed like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, its execution was lacking, resulting in low viewership and poor reviews. NBC had no choice but to cancel Suits LA after only one season on the air, despite the original show's spike in popularity almost two years ago.
Suits LA attempted to appeal to Suits fans via cameos from three original stars — Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter, Rick Hoffman as Louis Litt, and David Costabile as Daniel Hardman. Their brief appearances weren't enough to draw more viewers in, though. As a result, Suits LA ended after only 13 episodes.
9 FBI: Most Wanted
2020–2025
To most people's surprise, CBS canceled FBI: Most Wanted after six seasons in 2025. Many expected the network to renew the first FBI spinoff alongside its parent series and the franchise's second offshoot for the 2025–2026 broadcast TV season. However, that evidently wasn't the case, and FBI: Most Wanted is officially over.
Reports attributed FBI: Most Wanted's cancellation to financial concerns. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach told Deadline as much in May 2025. Reisenbach explained, "We have to be fiscally responsible and, ultimately, those deals and the shows just weren't penciling out for us from an economic perspective." And FBI: Most Wanted had to pay the price.
8 FBI: International
2021–2025
Unfortunately, CBS canceled the other FBI spinoff, FBI: International, alongside FBI: Most Wanted in 2025. So, when the dust cleared, only FBI and the franchise's new offshoot, CIA, were left standing regarding the network's 2025–2026 programming lineup. FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted are over for good.
Many fans were unhappy with FBI: International's ending as they believed it didn't sufficiently wrap up every character's story. Sadly, the police procedural series won't get the chance to redeem itself. Perhaps some FBI: Most Wanted and/or FBI: International characters will cross over to the other FBI shows and close out their arcs there, but that remains to be seen.
7 Doctor Odyssey
2024–2025
ABC technically didn't make the conscious decision to cancel Doctor Odyssey after just one season; the only reason why it's "canceled" is that the cast's options expired, freeing them up to work on other projects. The network didn't determine the medical drama's fate in time. Consequently, ABC had to end Doctor Odyssey (essentially by default).
|
Doctor Odyssey Main Cast |
Role |
|---|---|
|
Joshua Jackson |
Dr. Max Bankman |
|
Phillipa Soo |
Nurse Avery Morgan |
|
Sean Teale |
Nurse Tristan Silva |
|
Don Johnson |
Captain Robert Massey |
Since Doctor Odyssey's cancellation is unorthodox, it could continue one day. Of course, making a second season happen is now more difficult, especially if the cast members find work on other TV series. Still, Doctor Odyssey stands the best chance of being saved out of all the 2025 canceled shows.
6 The Equalizer
2021–2025
Queen Latifah will not be returning to the small screen as Robyn McCall, thanks to CBS canceling The Equalizer after five seasons. Like many other canceled TV shows, the crime drama's declining ratings are to blame for its ending. Reports also claim that financial reasons played a role in CBS's decision to end The Equalizer.
Unfortunately, CBS also shut down The Equalizer's previously announced spinoff. The offshoot was going to star Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz, who were introduced in season 5, episode 16 of the original series. However, it wasn't meant to be, and neither was The Equalizer season 6.
5 Rescue: HI-Surf
2024–2025
In the wake of NCIS: Hawai'i's cancellation, Rescue: HI-Surf was Hawaii's last hope. Unfortunately, Fox nixed the action drama after only one season, meaning there are no TV shows currently in production in Hawaii.
Over the course of its 19 episodes, Rescue: HI-Surf failed to gain a sizable audience that could impress Fox. As such, the network was disappointed with Rescue: HI-Surf's performance, resulting in the show's cancellation in 2025. It also didn't help that producing the TV series in Hawaii was expensive.
4 Lopez Vs Lopez
2022–2025
NBC canceled George Lopez's sitcom Lopez vs Lopez, likely due to the number one reason why TV series end — low ratings. Budget concerns were probably a factor, as well. Still, the comedy ran for three seasons and 45 episodes, which (unfortunately) is impressive for broadcast network shows nowadays. Three seasons still isn't enough for many fans, though.
3 Night Court
2023–2025
Lopez vs Lopez wasn't the only sitcom that NBC canceled in 2025 — the network also brought Night Court to an end after three seasons. The show served as a revival of the popular 1984 series of the same name. It garnered decent reviews, but its low viewership led to its demise (along with other circumstances such as production costs).
The worst part of Night Court's cancellation is that it ended with a cliffhanger. During the final moments of season 3's last episode, a man (played by Melissa Rouch's former The Big Bang Theory co-star, Simon Helberg) walked into Abby's office, kissed her, and declared that he was her husband. Now, we'll never know the truth or witness the fallout from the shocking scene.
2 Found
2023–2025
NBC canceled many TV shows in 2025, including Found. The procedural drama, created by Nkechi Okoro Carroll, followed a public relations specialist and crisis manager and her team as they searched for missing individuals who had been ignored by law enforcement and the media. It ran for two seasons and 35 episodes before ending in May 2025.
Many believed that Found deserved a third season. However, its declining ratings were significant enough to convince NBC to cancel it after its second season. As a result, Found is no more.
1 The Irrational
2023–2025
NBC also scrapped The Irrational from its schedule in 2025. Like many other TV shows (e.g., S.W.A.T.), the crime drama starring Jesse L. Martin was axed due to poor ratings. Its cancellation is quite disappointing, though, because The Irrational season 2 finale ended with a major cliffhanger. Now, the audience will never learn who was stalking Martin's character, Alec Mercer.
